Probe Body for the Optical Industry
With precision CNC machining as one of our core capabilities, Advanced Industries Inc. has the technical proficiency to produce complex workpieces that require strict high tolerances. We manufactured the probe body highlighted here for use in an optical application. As a machine shop capable of highly accurate detail work within short timeframes, the client was confident in our capabilities to deliver ten workpieces in just two weeks.
Our shop is equipped with a large inventory of precision machine tool assets, each with a various features and benefits. With this range of equipment, we can target production towards a specific machine with the capabilities that align best with each individual component. The detailed complexity of this probe, combined with tolerance requirements as close as ±0.0001”, made our 8-axis lathe the most practical choice. Using this piece of high-end equipment, we were able to create the sharply detailed geometries from a single setup. Being able to machine the workpiece in a single operation allowed us to accelerate production, minimize handling, and keep costs low.
Constructed from 316 stainless steel, the probe body featured overall dimensions of 1.875” in diameter x 3.420” in length. We passivated the finished pieces per ASTM A380 to provide maximum protection from rust and corrosion. Quality inspections, in the lab and right on the shop floor, took place continuously throughout the production cycle. We used a variety of gauges and measuring equipment to ensure we satisfied the requirements of the client’s specifications.
